In accordance with the Mines Act and the Metalliferous Mines Regulations (MMR) administered by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), V V Divakaran Quarry upholds a strict zero-compromise safety policy. Stone quarrying involves heavy-duty blasting, large-scale drilling, and loading blocks that weigh several tons. To manage this safely, all our blaster crews hold statutory certificates issued directly by PESO and the mining departments.
Our benches are designed with appropriate height-to-width ratios to prevent rockfall hazards. Automated alarm sirens and clearance sweeps are executed before any blasting occurs. By keeping strict boundaries and offering regular safety workshops, we ensure that our team and visitors stay fully protected throughout the production process.
Sustainable quarrying requires active stewardship. In line with the guidelines outlined in our Environmental Clearances, we perform quarterly environmental reviews. These audits check ambient noise levels, suspended particulate matter (SPM) in the atmosphere, and ground vibrations caused by quarry operations. These assessments are submitted regularly to the Kerala State Pollution Control Board.
To reduce dust spread, our crushing machines use high-pressure water mist sprinklers. We also maintain a green belt along the quarry's perimeter by planting native trees, helping reduce noise and support the local ecosystem. Our progressive quarry floor rehabilitation plans include transforming mined-out areas into rainwater collection reservoirs to supply water for local agricultural irrigation.
